canines are not usually spotted in the wild, and hyenas are not canine, they are giant mongoose. the only spotted/striped dog i know of is the african wild dog, which has more splotches than spots. they are critically endangered due to loss of habitat and hunting. there is also a high mortality rate to pups. this is from predation from hyena and eagles. but nevertheless, they are amazing animals, hunting in packs and taking down wildebeest five to eight times one dog's size. they are very small and rank low in the pekking order of the savannah lion hyena leopard cheetah wild dog yet despite their size, they remain one of my favorite animals of all.
